The Kejriwal government on Wednesday reported that an special team might test the 1984 riots against sikhs, two days after Congress VP Rahul Gandhi said some partymen may have been included in the riots yet had been punished.

The decision to investigate the riots that accompanied the murder of then PM Indira Gandhi and left more than 3,000 Sikhs dead in the Capital is liable to further strain the ties between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress, which is giving outside backing to the month-old Arvind Kejriwal government.

Two senior Congress pioneers, Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler, have court bodies of evidence pending against them for purportedly affecting brutality and heading swarms of hooligans.

Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Criticized the decision, said the government was toying with the sentiments of Sikhs for political mileage. “The Congress does not mind any probe but the intention is to play with the sentiments of the Sikh. They never mentioned about riots unless Rahul Gandhi talked about it in the interview,” Singh said.

Conversing with Times Now, Gandhi had conceded that some of his partymen were "probably involved in the violance" however were punished.

The NDA accomplice of BJP Shiromani Akali Dal hit back,  that even 30 years later, no movement had been taken against Congress leaders. AAP, on the other hand, denied that the controversy had affected the probe move.

Delhi CM Kejriwal met the lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung prior in the day to request a SIT test. “I have asked the L-G to set up SIT for 1984 riots. It was part of our manifesto too,” Kejriwal said. The terms for SIT might be chosen later by the cabinet, he said.

Education Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia later told columnists that Jung had given in-guideline approbation to SIT.  To an inquiry on how compelling the test might be 30 years later, Sisodia said legitimate exertions would most likely yield results.

Senior attorney HS Phoolka, who has been battling for the victimized people and as of late joined AAP, said it has given a "flash of trust" to the victimized people.“Police officers from other states should head the SIT while the Delhi Police should only assist them,” he said.
